I am very pleased to announce our first workshop at this years NPAC conference in Calgary on April 26-27.

Todd Korol

This will be the most un-photographic event of the weekend, but perhaps one of the most important if you are a freelance photographer. This workshop will be about money, your money and how to spend, borrow, save and keep some for retirement.

There are no golden rules for saving your money, just common sense ones. As a freelancer photographer, or even a staff photographer, you should have a plan to make your money work for you, now and in your future. This workshop will take you through some of the steps to begin planning for your financial future. It will take you through working with financial planners, accountants, your RRSP’s, RESP, TFSA’s, stocks, bonds, markets and how to try and avoid some of the pitfalls. Every photographer should have the chance to retire with some money; the trick is to start your financial planning today. This workshop will be full of tips for your financial stability and retirement.  “It’s not how much money you make, it’s how you spend and use it.”

Todd's bio -
"With camera in hand, Todd Korol has traveled the world on assignment for the world's top magazines. For the past 20 years, assignments have taken him to Scotland, London, Paris, Africa, the Middle East, Japan, South America, Central America, throughout the United States and far north of the Arctic Circle. He currently shoots assignments for Reuters, Time, Sports Illustrated, Canadian Geographic, Reader's Digest, Stern, the New York Times, The Globe & Mail, National Post. His blue chip corporate clients include Apple, Milk, Visa, Rolex, Suncor, EnCana and Statoil. He has published a book of his photographs; "Harvest" a look at a Saskatchewan farm family as they work together to get their crops off their land. He has been a photographer in the Day in the Life series, as well as having photographs published in over 200 books. His fine art work is represented by the Paul Kuhn Gallery in Calgary. His stock is with Aurora Photos. He lives with his wife and two boys in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. "

Check out Todd's work here:  http://www.toddkorol.com/

Along with the other presenters, Todd will be on hand to review portfolios.

Jimmy Colton

Fauxtography: Ethics in Photojournalism -
A lecture centered around the manipulation of images throughout history, focusing on its consequences and the impact alteration has on perceived truth.  It will highlight egregious examples of deception found in published photography, both historic and current, and examine the threshold of acceptable practices in post-production. A thorough discussion through a Questions and Answers period will follow the presentation.

James K. Colton recently left Sports Illustrated after 15 years as their Photography Editor and is currently a writer and educator. He began his career in 1972 at the Associated Press. Five years later he joined Newsweek and became their Director of Photography. He was the Jury Chairman for the World Press Photo contest in 2005, received an International Photography Awards “Lucie” for Picture Editor of the Year in 2007, was the recipient of the “Focus” award for Lifetime Achievement by the Griffin Museum in 2010 and has been acknowledged as one of the 100 most important people in photography by American Photo.

Allen is a graduate of Yale University, and flosses daily. :D LOL!

A few questions: I'm new to this forum and to NPAC (Member since yesterday) So....

1. What is the address in Calgary where the conference is held?
2. What are the costs of attending the various seminars?
3. How can I prove that I'm even a member of NPAC, as no member identification was given - besides a conformation number when I paid the $60.00?

Thanks,
Joseph Arava

It's one price for all seminars. There's a small additional admission for the NPOY Awards ceremony.

Session leader Rob Galbraith will provide a myriad of configuration and usage tips that will have you cranking through more pictures in less time and producing better quality files too.

His path to digital photography enlightenment began in 1994 when, as a staff shooter at the Calgary Herald, he was dispatched to Rwanda with the paper’s two NC2000 digital cameras to cover the rebuilding of the country and file photos by satellite phone.

Galbraith left the Herald in 1998 to work as an editorial freelance photographer and workflow consultant as well as to write The Digital Photojournalist’s Guide, a 400-page reference for news photographers taking the digital plunge. In 2000, he launched what would become Rob Galbraith Digital Photography Insights, a website of news and reviews for professional photographers that reached a monthly audience of 1.8 million.

In August of last year, Galbraith joined the instructor ranks at SAIT.
