The Only Team in Town – Tasha Otieno sits in a dimly lit room on the outskirts of Nairobi. She has just returned from hockey practice.

The only light in the room comes from a TV streaming a Youtube video of the 2010 Winter Olympics women’s gold medal hockey game between Canada and the USA.

Twenty-three-year-old Tasha is glued to the screen, screaming at the referees, despite having watched this game a dozen times before.

Tasha isn’t alone in Kenya when it comes to a love of ice hockey. She’s one of five women who play on the Nairobi Ice Lions, East Africa’s only women’s hockey team.

Waterless Generations – The people of Neskantanga First Nations haven’t been able to drink their tap water in more than 23 years. The community is under Canada’s longest-running boil-water advisory.

The federal government says the water system will be fixed in Spring 2019 but many community members are skeptical.

Casey Moonias, 26, has lived under the advisory for most of her life and her five children have never drank tap water from their community. She says that even if the government says their water is safe, she won’t use it because she doesn’t trust the government.
