Dear friends and colleagues,
You are invited to participate in a roundtable this Thursday, June 10th from 6.30 to 8pm ET.
The News Photographers Association of Canada, The United Photographers of Canada, and independent working photographers have organized to create space to share our concerns as well as come together as a community to begin devising solutions.
At this time, we will focus on two main topics, though we know there are many more issues to address. We hope that this will be the first of many.
The topics are:
1. Mental health support, personal safety and mitigating risk
2. Building a sustainable economic model.
Each will begin with a short presentation laying out the challenges, followed by a panel with a few photographers and editors. We will then open up the floor, so to speak, to questions and comments using the Q&A function on Zoom. More instructions and details will be shared at the beginning of the roundtable.
We are pleased to welcome Dr. Anthony Feinstein, who has done extensive work on trauma amongst journalists and photojournalists, as well as Jane Hawkes and Cliff Londsdale from the Canadian Journalism Forum on Violence and Trauma to lead the first section
