Overall, if people edited their stories down to tighter edits there would have been more in contention. Also, many images submitted as sports stories or features should have been sent as sports singles, and those could have been contenders. A few images stuck out due to heavy-handed toning, which immediately disqualified them. Finally, when photographing the homeless and submitting these for awards, a higher level of dignity should be practiced as they are not merely a spectacle.
