ZOOM'N - New Interactive Series for Photographers
« on: October 05, 2020, 08:41 PM »
As the world is still in a pretty strange place and we are all in need of interaction with our fellow photographers outside of the general disaster areas we have been experiencing, NPAC is putting together a series of Zoom meetings with photographers from across the spectrum.

It would be completely live and interactive, but we will put the recorded version on our webpage to refer to at a later date.

They would run up to an hour and would be free for members but there would be a nominal fee for non-members.

So far, we have these amazing photographers / editors committed to participate (some abridged bios - check website for full details):

Barbara Davidson: Barbara Davidson is a three-time Pulitzer Prize and Emmy award-winning photographer/ director best known for her work on victims of gang violence in Los Angeles. Davidson is a 2019-2020 Guggenheim Fellow recipient and will spend the year traveling the United States making portraits of survivors of gun violence using an 8x10 film camera. https://www.barbaradavidson.com

Chris Helgren: I’m a photographer, photo editor and MA graduate in photojournalism and documentary photography based in Toronto, Canada. Since 1990 I’ve been with Reuters, working primarily in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa and have now come full circle back to my native Canada. https://www.chrishelgren.net

Gary Hershorn: Gary Hershorn is a Canadian photographer and picture editor based in New York City. Hershorn's 40 year career began in 1979 at United Press International, in Toronto. He began working at Reuters in 1985, as Chief Photographer, Canada before moving to Washington, DC.: https://www.newyorkcelestial.com/about.php

Jimmy Jeong: After moving to Manhattan with his partner and enjoying true Brooklyn pizza (yum) they transplanted to the beautiful west coast. Along the way he met some great clients and produced images they both believed in. His commercial and editorial clients span North America and around the world. Which suits Jimmy just fine since he always keeps a packed Go-bag. 'Jimmy has also started Room Up Front' , A mentorship program for BIPOC photojournalists https://www.jimmyshoots.com

Pat Kane: Pat is a photographer in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. He covers people, life and environment in northern Canada.

Pat takes a documentary approach to the stories impacting Northerners, with a special focus on Indigenous issues and empowerment. He approaches his subjects with respect and empathy, giving people a collaborative sense to the photo making process and creating visual stories that are expressive and intimate. https://www.patkanephoto.com/about

John Moore: John Moore is a senior staff photographer and special correspondent for Getty Images.

He has photographed in 65 countries on six continents and was posted internationally for 17 years, first to Nicaragua, then India, South Africa, Mexico, Egypt and Pakistan. Since returning to the U.S. in 2008 he has since focused on immigration and border issues.

Moore has won top awards throughout his career, including the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography, World Press Photo honors, the John Faber Award and the Robert Capa Gold Medal from the Overseas Press Club, Photographer of the Year from Pictures of the Year International, the NPPA and Sony World Photography Organization.https://www.worldpressphoto.org/person/detail/1622/john-moore

Candice Ward: I have always loved sports. Since I was not born with the raw talent to become an elite athlete, I have taken to photographing them. I am currently a freelance sports/editorial/commerical photographer based out of Calgary, Alberta.

I have been shooting professionally since 2008, after graduating from the photojournalism program at SAIT Polytechnic. When I am not shooting for my clients or myself, I can be found on the basketball court - or more accurately warming the bench, or at the dog park with my pouty Weimraraner Juno.

I am currently the contract team photographer for both the Calgary Hitmen (WHL) and the Calgary Roughnecks (NLL). I have also been featured in two Aboriginal magazines as a role model for Aboriginal youth. https://www.candiceward.ca

With more to come.....

What I am wondering is this:  What would you guys like for topics? Photographers to participate? Companies that can help your workflow (i.e. Photo Mechanic, Nikon, Canon, Sony, etc)

How often would you like to have these occur?  Obviously, it will depend on everyone's schedules, and they may be subject to change, but we will keep you in the loop.

Let me know your thoughts and we can't wait to launch this.

Watch this space....

Stay safe and well everyone.

Cheers,
Ali
