NPOY 2013 to be live streamed!

A big first for NPAC and probably the first for any photo competition in Canada. The NPOY 2013 judging will be live streamed.

A big thanks to Ryan Jackson who has stepped up to help with the multimedia portion of the competition and oversee the live streaming.

Final details have yet to be worked out and we hope to live stream all categories with the exception of photojournalist of the year and photo of the year.

I spent half an hour pressing refresh today for the POYi judging in the Portrait category before the room finally cleared enough to get in.  I hope there isn't too small a limit on the NPAC room.

Also any plan to record it for posterity? Great discussions always come up in the POYi, especially when you get down to the last 8-12 images. It's a shame they don't offer the videos for later viewing.

No idea how long the opening ceremonies will last: lots of speeches, the traditional Parade of Judges, an interpretative dance number with photojournalism students acting out the history of photography, and a tribute to Kodak featuring Celine Dion singing her classic and emotional "Film will go on forever".

I would also strongly suggest that students will benefit tremendously from watching this process and understanding why some photographs work and others don't.
