Kitimat, BC, launches North West Photo Fest
« on: June 27, 2016, 11:06 PM »
After a more than a year of work,  we're announcing that Kitimat, BC, will launch North West Photo Fest, a regional celebration of photography, this August.

North West Photo Fest will feature an exhibit by photographers in northwestern British Columbia, with the theme "Why We Live Here." Despite the boom and bust resource economy and the uncertainty of tourism, many people chose to remain in the northwest or make every effort to return if their careers had called them away.  One image from each photographer will illustrate that theme. The exhibit will run at the Kitimat Museum & Archives from August 5 to August 27, with an opening reception on the evening of August 5 at the museum.

On August 6, we will hold a day of seminars and workshops at Kitimat's Riverlodge Recreation Centre.  Our special guests are well known to NPAC, Andy Clark and Paul Colangelo.

Local photographers who will be presenting are Doug Keech and Dwight Magee from Kitimat and Talon Gillis from Terrace.

At the lunch and learn, Kitimat Search and Rescue will give a safety briefing "Facing Your Fears in the Back Country" followed by a panel on observing wildlife with Walter Thorne of Kitimat Valley Naturalists and Rob St. Jean, a wildlife observer with LNG Canada.

Congrats on this! I'm sure it was a ton of work to put together. It'll be a great cultural addition for the province.
