New medium for photography discovered
« on: July 24, 2012, 04:50 PM »
A new medium for photography has been discovered in the UK. The news comes from The British Journal of Photography, so you know it must be important.  :P

The article is titled "Hot off the press: The newsprint as a medium for photographers"

Here are some of the juicy details:

   • Printing on newsprint isn't like printing with an inkjet. Printing on a press requires CMYK colour separations.

   • Holding newsprint in your hands isn't like holding a laptop or tablet computer. Newsprint has a rough, paper-like feel.

   • Pictures look different when printed on newsprint than when viewed as a PDF on a computer screen.

   • A newsprint page can be held sideways or even upside down! The pages can even be folded!

   • You can run pictures across multiple pages. If you run one picture across two pages, it will look like a poster!

Printing a newspaper is a brilliant way to get the story out," he says. "If you use newsprint, you can give it away for free. Of course, you can charge for it, but that's really stupid.

You should think about it as being a series of pages with which you can do whatever you want. ...  I think it will be very interesting to see how [newsprint is] used in the future.

Gee, I hope this newsprint thing comes to Canada someday.
