The current issue of Military History Quarterly (General Custer on the cover) has a very interesting picture spread of war photos by Cecil Beaton best known for elegant images of the Royal Family and movie stars and winning an Oscar for designing My Fair Lady.
Beaton volunteered for the British Ministry of Information during WWII and took 7,000 images during the conflict. The images were filed away and lost and only recently rediscovered. As MHQ points out "his photos are not the typical blood and grime shots. Sailors and nurses look like matinee idols....There is no blood, no sorrow or weariness..."
