How Would An NHL BOSS Solve Climate Change
« on: November 13, 2019, 10:52 AM »
How would Colin Campbell a hard nosed former NHL hockey player, known for his clutch playoff goals, identifying hockey talent and being an NHL assistant coach and NHL VP solve the Climate Change Crisis.

In an online article dated April 7 2008 and repeated in Macleans April 20 2008 written by Colin Campbell titled What Would It Take To Stop Climate Change. This was an NHL, David Suzuki event and can be found online in the Canadian Encyclopedia.

There is some pretty bold statements of action ,likely not seen in media since for a very long time.

The article makes a list of actions listed in a LA Times story, the lists said in the bold year of 2008, to meet the United Nations Bali Conference goals of 50% carbon reductions ,30 new nuclear power plants would have to be built,17,000 wind turbines,400 bio mass power plants,2 massive hydro electric projects the size of China's Three Gorges Project and 42 carbon or gas power plants equipped with under ground carbon capture storage. The kicker is,this would have all had to built by 2013, then repeated every year till 2030. Note, in 2008 the US hasn't built a nuclear plant in 30 years and Canada not much better.I guess getting rid of plastic straws wasn't such a big deal in those days.

Still boldly it also criticizes the environmental movement for being too local in thinking, even though their strategy worked for CFC's and acid rain. Anyway the article is pretty clear and negative but also very frank. I guess it is the frankness what is most surprising. It is a measure of how much journalism has changed.opinion by Ken Gigliotti
