Display doesn't show image
« on: September 21, 2014, 06:57 PM »
Posting for a friend...

The camera is an old Canon 1D Mark 3.

The display doesn't show the picture, just black. If a photo is taken with no lens attached, display shows a red horizontal and vertical lines.

Latest firmware, tried different lenses. Mirror and curtain appear to be operating properly.
Have attached a sample of the what some of the pictures out of the camera looks like

Is the sensor toast?

Whatever's wrong with it, you probably can't fix it yourself, so you might as well send it to Canon and see what they do with it.  You never know, they might be able to re-build it for less than you could get a replacement camera for.

Hi Lars,

If, when a lens is attached, the image comes out looking like it
was shot through vertical venetian blinds it has been my experience
that the sensor is on it's last legs  :o and if out of warranty it's not
worth repairing, IMHO.

Kind of like this image found on the internet:

Cheers,

Jack
