Chronicle Herald plans to lay off all photojournalists
« on: December 23, 2015, 01:31 AM »
The Chronicle Herald in Halifax this week said it wants to lay off thirty percent of its newsroom staff including all photojournalists. Reporters would then magically become "multimedia journalists." Contract talks between the newspaper and union staff have broken off.

The shitty thing about this, is that they are converting reporters into multimedia journalists.
Or so they say.

The crazy thing is that Eric Wynne is the guy who currently trains reporters on multimedia.
He is good enough to train the reporters, but not good enough to be the multimedia journalist they crave.

I know it all has to do with a bean counter looking at a job category that doesn't have a large number of people in it and making a line through it. But at some point they should consider how it is easier to make a multimedia journalist out of a photographer over a reporter.

I'm sad for those shooters out there,
I think that NPAC should say something publicy at some point in the process.
