Who is Peter Power?
« on: January 26, 2013, 07:57 AM »
I had a box of VHS tapes that were lurking in my basement converted into DVDs and this little beauty surfaced. We all thought this tape was gone forever. Here is the original copy of 'Who is Peter Power' produced by Dave Chidley to celebrate (then) Toronto Star photographer Peter Power being named Photographer of the Year by the Eastern Canadian News Photographers Associations. The video was shown at the first Great White North Workshop in Toronto in 2002.

Enjoy!

I believe that one of Dave's friends from CTV shot it.

Peter just recently asked me about the video and poof out of the dust Blair happens to post this, without us mentioning it.

You must be psyhcic.

In any case, it was all in good fun.  The videographer was Kirk Neff, was at the time was with City, now Global 16x9 show.  I knew Kirk from our Calgary days.  It was a long shoot and many hours of editing for Kirk and colleagues.  So another big thanks goes out to him, mention if you happen to see him on the streets in Toronto.

The point was to celebrate Peter's POY and to emphasize the fact that in Canada the "top" photojournalist can work pretty much in anonymity. Thus the "what is a good photo" and "who is Peter Power" questions.   Where as the "celebs" of the business the columnists and top writers are often used in promotion of their organizations.  Certainly given higher profile and recognition.

So still relavant today, and hopefully somewhat entertaining.   Enjoy, and thanks Peter for being the deserving topic for the video.
