Pikto Top Pick Competition Launches for 2012

Pikto’s Third Annual Top Pick Competition launches for 2012. Pikto Top Pick Competition allows emerging and mid-level artists an opportunity to win an all-expenses paid gallery exhibition. There is no entry fee for the competition. Entrants are encouraged to explore their personal voice and develop the thematic tone of their work while creating a meaningful and comprehensive body of work.

The winner will receive $5,000 towards the production of their gallery show, including an opening reception, professional PR support and a two-month show in the Pikto Gallery. Winners of the competition will have the opportunity to meet with the judges and other influential members of the photographic community. Previous winners are Anastasia Taylor-Lind (VII Photo Agency) and Arthur Bondar.

Anastasia Taylor-Lind, Top Pick Winner 2011, had her first solo exhibition and has continued to show her series “National Womb: Baby Boom in Nagorno-Karabakh” internationally to much acclaim. The body of work has been featured in The New York Times, Burn Magazine and many others.

Pikto Gallery has a reputation of discovering and fostering emerging photographic talent. The gallery has housed the works of Donald Weber, Aaron Vincent Elkaim, Matt Barnes, Carlos Cazalis, Andrew B. Myers and Clare Samuel.

All entries will be evaluated by our internationally respected panel of judges:

Johan Hallberg-Campbell – Curator, Pikto Gallery/Documentary Photographer
Gina Martin – Image Sales, National Geographic Magazine
Chris Buck – Commercial/Editorial Photographer

In addition to the Top Prize there will be a Popular Vote, as determined by the artist with the highest online gallery rating.

All details of the competition are available at www.pikto.com. The newly updated Online Gallery provides photographers an accessible platform for exhibiting and and interacting with submissions online.

All serious photographers are encouraged to enter. The deadline for submissions is November 1, 2012. Winners will be announced on November 15, 2012. For additional information please visit www.pikto.com.
