NPOY Entry deadline coming soon
« on: January 16, 2016, 03:48 PM »

Maybe you're a memory-card-is-half-full person or maybe you're a memory-card-is-half-empty person. Either way, the entry period for the 2015 NPOY is at midpoint. The deadline for entries is this January 31, 11:59PM (PST). Don't leave it to the last moment.

Student entry won't start until March.

Also, if you haven't completed the survey, please spend a few minutes doing that.

Thanks.

Just wanted clarification on file numbering. Not sure who is handling the contest this year.

If one prepared 15 entries over 4 categories for example, are the files numbered sequentially ie-01-15 or does each category need to start at 01 ? does it even make a difference ? also does PY need to be numbered 01-12 or will it fit in sequentially as long as it has PYNAMEOFENTRANT ?

Hey Fred,

You might want to touch base with Ric Ernst or Carmine Marinelli.  I know that they will be able to respond to you ASAP.  Probably best to send a text to Ric and I know he'll get right back to you.

Hope that helps!

Ali

It doesn't make a difference for most categories but as in previous years, you'd number within each category. For example, if Jane W. Brown entered Spot News (SN), General News (GN) and Sports Action (SA), her filenames would be

SNJWB01
SNJWB02
GNJWB01
GNJWB02
GNJWB03
GNJWB04
SAJWB01
SAJWB02

Numbering is very important for Picture Story (PS) as the numbers represent the order in which the pictures will be viewed.

As for PY, numbering matters only in that it will be the order in which pictures are viewed. But since these are all single images, order isn't important unless you're trying to exert some subliminal control over the judges :D

Hi Fred,

Warren is once again correct. (When is he ever wrong?).

The numbering of your files can be sequential overall or just within each category. The whole idea is to have each image with an unique filename.

The numbering of the PY entry is there so you can put the group of images into the order you want the judges to view them.

The order of the images in the Picture Story entry is important so that's why we've asked you to use letters (a, b, c... etc.) just to make sure the story is viewed correctly. You can use numbers instead of letters if you prefer as long as each image has a unique filename.

Thanks!

Ric Ernst.
