You might have noticed that this site was down (i.e. kaput) for a brief time. You may have even wondered, "Is there something wrong with my computer or have invading aliens shut down the Internet?"
First and most important, it wasn't my fault.
It was a complex, highly-technical issue involving critical infrastructure.
Okay, who am I trying to kid? I pulled out the wrong plug while vacuuming the food crumbs from my keyboard.
Apparently, it may have been an
inode problem. Meaning: we had too many of them. (Look it up and learn something new).
Most, if not all, web hosting plans have a file count limit. Depending on the host and the web plan (i.e. how much you pay), this limit can range up to 250,000(?) or so. This may sound high but if you're running various CMS, (e.g. blog software, forum software, etc), and many e-mail accounts, that file count can get eaten up within a few years.
Glen Canning and Ali Ledgerwood have rescued us from having to turn off the computer and going outside to play.
