NEWS

Judges comments: 1st place captured intense, peak action in challenging light; slightly tighter crop in from the left preferred. 2nd place has beautiful aesthetic, color and lines with high profile subject. Slightly looser crop would have been perfect, and without it being a Trump, might not qualify for a news photo, but access and execution is a big part of the success of the image. 3rd place has good emotion/moment in very tough light. Could use some toning.

PORTRAIT

Judges Comments: 1st place has beautiful light, composition, lines and body positioning; simple but very effective with subject. 2nd place captures great action/color/environment; would ideally like to see a second light or the single light that was used catch a little more of the subjects face. 3rd place has nice candid, high contrast, editorial feel. Honorable Mention…cool zoom/strobe effect for what would otherwise be basic subject/photo.
