Bonny Makarewicz (1962 – 2014)
Whistler-based photojournalist Bonny Makarewicz passed away yesterday, March 27, after a battle with cancer. She was a former staff photographer at the Whistler Question and was immensely well respected among her peers and the Whistler community.
Bonnie also freelanced for a number of media outlets such as The Vancouver Sun, The Province, The Globe and Mail, National Post, The New York Times, European Pressphoto Agency and Pique Newsmagazine.
From Pique Newsmagazine:
Makarewicz has been a photojournalist for more than two decades, documenting not just Whistler’s growth and personality, but also its sports heroes and celebrities, and those who come to work and play at the resort.

My condolences to her family 🙁
We are heartbroken over the loss of Bonny, a dear friend and wonderful co-worker who knew all of the ins and outs of Whistler! You are missed already and will forever be with us. You have left an indelible mark on our hearts and on the pages of the publications you shared your talent with.
Godspeed Bon; you will not be forgotten. Such great adventures with Laurence and you. And such an eye for capturing the moment.
Very hard watching Nick’s assemblage, knowing the people, being with her for many of the shots, seeing how Bonnie recorded Canadian history- with accuracy, a smile and laughter. Remembered far, far beyond her photography. Miss you .
