Tom Hanson Photojournalism Award 2021

Applications for the twelfth annual Tom Hanson Photojournalism Award are now being accepted.

This six-week paid internship at The Canadian Press head office in Toronto is designed to give an up-and-coming news photographer the chance to perform on the national stage.

Named in memory of Canadian Press photographer Tom Hanson (and here), this award is open to any Canadian photojournalist who has been in the business less than five years – from students to freelancers to photographers working at regional publications.

Applicants must submit a portfolio of their work by February 19, 2021.

 

Updated March 24, 2021: Evan Buhler, a photojournalist at the Rocky Mountain Outlook, in Canmore, Alberta, has won the 2021 Tom Hanson Photojournalism Award. His winning portfolio is here.
