1st place, we really liked the body language of the dog and the owner. The body language of the owner and the dog set it apart from the others. As far as the second place, we enjoyed the quiet moment of the the dancer and the light in the image. With 3rd place, we appreciated the angle of the hockey players and the shadows.

Portrait

Context is with nice with captions for people who don’t have a basic understanding of your news. Some of the portraits would have been great to have a little additional information. The winning images we selected stood out to because they were shot well compositionally and worked well for the story. The second image we liked that it was unique and we liked the use of high-key.

Sports

For us, composition and a different way of looking at something we have seen before was what set the winning images apart. That said, one image that we would have placed we chose not to due to because it was an image shot for it’s composition, but it’s wasn’t perfect. If you’re shooting an image and relaying on composition…make it perfect!

Some of the images would have worked great in singles categories. We felt that all of the sets, including the ones that placed, could have benefited from an edit. Always nice to have an extra set of eyes on your images.
