« on: March 14, 2016, 12:23 PM »
Our first workshop out of three at this years NPAC conference in Toronto on April 22 & 23.

Ryan Jackson / Full Circle Visuals Inc.

Video Workshop: Frame Grab the News, Film the Story

Workshop description:

The demand for video and demand for photographers to produce video has exploded in the last decade, but how do you make money creating that content? Is shaky iPhone footage good enough or a race to the bottom?

Ryan Jackson will give away all his secrets for being more productive and capturing quality video no matter what device you are using. Often the simplest tricks can make the biggest difference.

This workshop will include practical tips that apply to any newspaper staffer or freelancer. Topics will include choosing the right tool for the job, gear management, live streaming video, 4K frame grabs, 360VR, industry trends and the state of online video monetization.

About Ryan:

Ryan Jackson’s career has evolved with the changing technology of our industry in the last 10 years.
A proud electrical engineering and computer science dropout, Jackson graduated Loyalist College right when video was first emerging in newspaper newsrooms.

He interned at the Canadian Press, the Ottawa Citizen, the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix and the Edmonton Sun before landing a staff job at the Edmonton Journal, where he was senior multimedia photojournalist for nine years.

A jack of all trades, Jackson has MacGyvered several award-winning multimedia projects over the years, including 360-degree videos dating back to 2010, interactive games for tablets, and a virtual reality conversation with candidates during an election campaign.

Ryan has been honoured with 26 national and international awards over the past decade, including several NPAC pictures and videos of the year. He has spoken at more than a dozen conferences and taught multimedia to the next generation at MacEwan University.

He is now starting up his own 360-degree video production company, Full Circle Visuals Inc.
Jackson lives in Edmonton with his wife and adorable wiener dog Mr. Woofertons.

He has been blogging since 2002 at ryanjackson.ca

This will be one of three workshops being held on Friday, April 22nd. Stay tuned for more announcements this week.
