Comments: First – Judges were unanimous on the first-place selection. Having the photographer find someone unique in the situation, following the subject out to the water, shooting from the outside to the shoreline. They loved the girls on the left side of the frame adding an additional element to the frame. One judge, good moment, they were also wondering how the photographer made out after getting wet! Second – Everyone liked this photo, just a great frame, judges went back and forth with first place photo. Keeping the subject of centered, control of the lighting, one judge like the extra people in the background, frame in a frame. Great control of exposure. Third – Believe the isolation of the skater was a big contributor to the image, loved the subject the background, the subject draws you into the photo. One judge asked if it’s a drone photo. H.M. – Nice reflection took a while to find the face of the rider which one judge had to point out. It
added something to the image. [/I]1. Nick Iwanyshn/Freelance

Comments: First – Contrast, colour, eyes, makes me want to know more, one judge said. The focus on the subject’s eyes, everyone like the colour perfect line, they said. Second – Really unique way of looking at an assignment especially when you’re in a pack. Photographer took two steps back and saw something different that nobody else saw it. The image filled the dead void space and made a press conference fill interesting. Since the photo was not related to the event as we all know, the photographer created an unique photo out of a routine assignment. Third – Layering of the composition works great, where you have foreground leading to the background. One judge said the framing makes you want to go in and see what’s going on, inviting, lets your eye explore and invites you in the doorway.

Comments: First – Very humorous, perfect composition, background helped support the image and keeps it clean, emotional, funny, catches your eye, just a moment most people would not see and that the beauty of having of having a contest. The photographer saw something different and captured the moment. Second – Really nice action. You can see their eyes, face, with both laying on the ice creates a unique angle. With both in conflict, it creates a really nice. Third – Great moment. Judges felt the umpire should have been cropped out to tighten the photo, but we have all been there before, otherwise it would have been moved up to a better spot.

Comments: First – Corkey, cool little feeling almost looks like a frame out of a movie I would like to watch. You can tell what they’re doing and what they are without literally seeing everything. Little bit of debate on first place, lots of interesting submissions. Second – The photo is a bit more motive, lighting question on the hair flowing which adds a nice touch. Covering part of the face really makes it. It’s more of something of him as a person, mood. One judge said, (to me there’s a story behind this and I would like to read it). Third – Love the tonality to it, expression her expression feeling of it. Relaxed kind eyes, the photographer has a connection with the subject.[/I]
