Comments: It’s a great silent moment, with a lot to read. Works well with the color and composition. Empty chairs on the left adds depth to it. Loved it!

1. Kevin Light/Freelance
TED speaker and best-selling author Dan Pontefract poses for a portrait outside his home in Oak Bay, British Columbia Canada on December 12th, 2022.It was close call between this and the 1 st one. The young girl had a powerful and intense look on her face, while her mother looked away from the camera and looked distracted. She was out of focused. Yet, the portrait is well balanced and serves a good purpose to the story. I felt the emotion in the photo.
2. Chad Hipolito/the Globe and Mail

Frost builds up on the toque and scarf of a downtown commuter in Saskatoon during a freezing cold yet beautiful winter day. According to Environment Canada, the wind chill will bring temperatures down to -40 to -50. Photo taken in Saskatoon on Monday, December 27, 2021.Almost had it in the first place but as a viewer I was looking for the moments where people would actually catch a fish. The “uuh” moment was missing. Could possibly use more visual variety. Most of the photos were made from the same distance. There are some nice moments like the scene setter, detail shots of the fish and the guy looking outside. Captions lack information and context. Since it’s a closed place there is a
good potential to continue the story. I really liked the shot of the kid being bored inside the shack.2. Chelsea Kemp/Brandon Sun

Darcy Robins chats with a neighbour at Lake Wahtopanah on Tuesday, Dec. 28.The story started really well but afterwards it became redundant. They were shot on the same distance. There was an urge to include the outreach volunteers in every photo. I did not see what the volunteers was actually doing. It was just them walking around and talking. Wish the captions had more names. Loved the scene setter shot, the detail shot of Dakota Casey and the layered shot of the homeless person. This story has a potential if pursued longer. Please get close to the subject next time. Good luck!.
