As part of the special occasion, participants wrote down why they love dancing and Ukraine on Ukrainian flags placed at the entrance of the Ukrainian National Hall. The messages conveyed pride in the culture and dance, he said, serving as another way for dancers to express their enjoyment of the art.

Freshly baked bread is pulled from an oven and placed on cooling racks at KUB Bakery in Winnipeg, originally known as Kucher’s Ukrainian Bakery when it opened in 1923. The bakery produces between 30,000 and 40,000 hand shaped loaves every week.

KUB Bakery moved to its current production facility—a building originally build by New Flyer in the 1960s to assemble transit buses—after its North End location burnt down in 2008. A photo of the original factory and shop hangs by the entrance.
