Comments: The winner of the soldier saluting in the News category is a deceivingly hard picture to make. The photographer’s ‘Hail Mary’ to get above the subject to show the crowd made for an excellent and nice frame.

Sexy and sympathetic are indeed more than adequate terms to describe Maple, heroine of the new novel by David Goudreault, photographed for the launch of his new book. Fans of the successful trilogy The Integral Beast already know the character, a sex worker – like Dostoyevsky on acid – with a powerful, rebellious and colorful verve, who, at the end of the third volume, is condemned after assaulting a police officer.3. Comments: The multi-picture category was weak overall. It seemed like many of the photos were shot with the same lens. Not a great mix of metal shots, overalls, lighting, emotion. First place winner of the state funeral was excellent. Nice take, nicely edited.
