David Himbert – 2018 National Magazine Awards

David Himbert, photographe montréalais et membre du APPC, a remporté un Prix d’Argent dans la catégorie “Photojournalisme et essais photographiques” des 41es Prix du magazine canadien. Son essai intitulé Les Cubains et l’après-Fidel documente le peuple cubain lors des funérailles de Fidel Castro en 2016.

Montreal-based photographer and NPAC member David Himbert last week won a Silver Award in the “Photojournalism and Photo Essay” category of the 41st Annual National Magazine Awards. His essay titled Les Cubains et l’après-Fidel documents the Cuban people during Fidel Castro’s funeral in 2016.

Pendant quatre jours à la fin de la période de deuil national de neuf jours en décembre 2016, la population de Cuba bordait les routes entre la Havane et Santiago pour assister au passage du cortège funèbre de Fidel Castro, le Commandant en chef de la Révolution cubaine qui décédé le 25 novembre 2016. La procession a traversé treize des quinze provinces de l’île. Elle a symboliquement inversé le chemin qui a conduit la Caravane de la Liberté à La Havane où les forces castristes ont pris le pouvoir le 8 janvier 1959, avec Camilo Cienfuegos et Che Guevara.

For four days at the end of the nine-day national mourning period in December 2016, the population of Cuba lined the roads between Havana and Santiago to witness the funeral procession of Fidel Castro, the Commander-in-Chief of the Cuban Revolution who died November 25, 2016. The procession passed through thirteen of the fifteen provinces on the island. It symbolically reversed the path that led the Caravan of Liberty to Havana where the Castro forces took power on January 8, 1959, with Camilo Cienfuegos and Che Guevara.
