Title: When reality isn't good enough

World Press Photo today announced (http://www.worldpressphoto.org/news/2016-10-26/world-press-photo-foundation-announces-new-programs-2017) that it will start a new photo contest in October 2017:

... a new contest for creative documentary photography. ... This contest will be for professional visual storytellers who ... deploy creative techniques in constructing, processing and presenting images. This contest will not have rules limiting how images are produced, and will not have categories.

This is like a Hollywood movie saying, "Based on true events."  But we all know that fictional accounts sell more tickets than the true documentary version.

I guess "fictional journalism" is now a thing.

It's been said that journalism is done by those seeking the truth (http://www.spj.org/ethicscode.asp) and fiction is done by those who think they've found the truth.
