TOP PHOTOJOURNALISTS RECOGNIZED AT LARGEST PHOTOJOURNALISM COMPETITION IN CANADA

Great photographs transcend language and cultural differences to tell stories of our shared human experience. A great news photo can capture the joy of personal achievement, reveal a profound tale of heartbreak, or show us what we don’t see or maybe refuse to see.

Photojournalism differs from ordinary photography in that photojournalism operates within ethical constraints. Photojournalism provides an unbiased, accurate and responsible look at the world around us. As with all journalism, this information is necessary for public discussion and to help our society make decisions.

Canadian photojournalism is at least 114 years old. Canadian photojournalists not only inform fellow Canadians of what’s happening but they also help the rest of the world see Canada. The work of Canadian photojournalists is regularly published around the world.

Today the News Photographers Association of Canada (NPAC) is pleased to recognize the excellence represented in submissions by 135 of Canada’s outstanding photojournalists in announcing the finalists in the thirteenth annual National Pictures of the Year (NPOY) awards competition.
