The News Photographers Association of Canada (NPAC) is thrilled to congratulate three Canadian photojournalists recognized at the World Press Photo Competition. NPAC President Amber Bracken as well as NPAC members Darren Calabrese and Giovanni Capriotti were each recognized for international excellence at the prestigious competition announced today.

Bracken won first prize for Contemporary Issues – Stories with her photo story on the opposition to the Dakota Access Pipeline. Calabrese placed third in Sports - Stories with his powerful images of disabled female rugby player, Lindsay Hilton. Capriotti placed first in Sports - Stories for his coverage of a gay men’s rugby team.

World Press Photo Competition is recognized as one of the world’s highest calibre photo journalism awards. Having three winners that are working members of the Canadian freelance photojournalism community should not be overlooked. This illustrates the world-class talent that makes up part of the strong news photographers industry in Canada.

The NPAC organization is very proud of Amber, Darren and Giovanni and champions their commitment and dedication to their craft.
