Turns out the Victoria News laid off their staff photographer a few months ago and that's why they're looking for a volunteer photographer.

I was invited back on CKNW last night. Here's the update:

If you really want to demonstrate that you really don't give a crap about what you're doing, I couldn't think of a better way.  No won't newspapers are dying.

Good on the radio show and John for speaking on it.

On what freaking planet does anyone agree to this? Where did this start? Why doesnt anyone think they have to pay for photos anymore? Why photography? Why can newspapers ask for volunteers then turn around and pretend they were just asking for citizen journalists when someone calls them out?

Everyday, the people in charge of the money at newspapers and magazines, respect us less and less, but need high quality images MORE and MORE. Everyone is walking around with a screen in their pocket, and is consuming news and other content rapidly more than ever before, but newsrooms and magazines keep firing their photographers that make their apps jump off the screen visually.

On a related note, here's a trailer for a documentary video about the music industry and the fact that no one wants to pay for music anymore and musicians can't make a living through music.

Interview with the Canadian Media Gild

The Victoria News advertised for volunteer photographers to shoot for them. Here's what John Lehmann says about that. http://t.co/6LUtiHGhgb
