What happens when good ideas age out? Ideas do age out, and are replaced with other good ideas all the time. Western culture is famous for it's ideas and their natural progression. Other counties have lost their creativity and one has to wonder how that happens. Is it happening right now , here in this great North American experiment? In this case good ideas might be replaced by bad ideas? Maybe,maybe not.
(Skipping to the end for those who don't like to read)This is a transformational time when the biggest issues are finding philosophical cover in middles ages literature of Primordial Traditionalism mixed with propaganda and power seeking, fall of unions and all within a closed globalized sphere. It could be just changing the flavors of the week, its seems not too long ago everyone was worried about too few people owning too much wealth. Could it be that radical political change will bring wealth back to countries of origin. By any means necessary may have a catch, it might mean radical political change. If the stock market keeps rising and employment keeps rising,and Korea goes quiet ,liberal cable TV may be wrong again. Media never should have taken sides in the first place.
This is the overturning of and aging liberalism, political correctness and other things seen as a hindrance to centralized power. The elimination of capitalism , the certainty of profit, and the elimination or need for democracy is the goal. A globalized corporate state is being organized to counteract the agility of planning that only states like Russia and China can achieve. (Trumps Russia love) This is a future survival plan that is going off the rails from philosophy to real world application.)
Media requires the literature of historic equivalents in order to analyze the present. This works fine for finding experts and historians to comment. BUT, when something is so completely new the result is trading the examination of process for actual news. The big picture is missed.
Media's misread of the massive cultural changes of the 1960's is proof using it's own standard. Media now celebrates the culture change as transformative. An easy example the “devil music “ of Rock and Roll ( Chuck Berry ,a gyrating Elvis, later just Rock music, the Rolling Stones, Heavy Metal are now celebrated .But not back then.
Today something completely new is going on and media's formulated approach cannot see it. Media has been working with binders for so long it simply cannot see the obvious. There are also commercial influences that now weigh heavily on how we see this new world.
The binder comes in many shades of optical correctness. Some are dogmatic and political , some come from historic mandates ,other are good intentions. All have served a purpose, and the signs of aging are pretty obvious. All have unintended consequences.
Globalization and corporatism are moving to a crescendo.
Using tried and true methods, Canada's controversial to say the least selling of nuclear reactors to India and then Pakistan was a good idea in the 1960's under Conservative and Liberal leadership to promote growth and provide power to underdeveloped countries. Pakistan then allowed it's technology to proliferate to North Korea a country they had political ties with. Iran was next. Now in this century, not such a good idea , the intended countries developed but the side effects have made the world a very dangerous place today. Good intentions can go bad over time. These two examples are old but the age gives cover for the argument.
We are in another new century and massive change is moving at an even greater speed that cultural change of industrialization of the late 1890's-1900's. The massive change was from an agricultural age to industrial,that is big. Farm to city. The 1800's built capital, 1945-75 built global equality, 1975-80 and education , and person equality in 1975-80 . Corporatization began in the 1985. In earlier posts I estimated 1986-87. This timeline and conclusion are very well explained by Jeremy Grantham of GMO on Charlie Rose ( Charlie Rose .com should find it).Anyone who lived and worked during the 1980's will feel these conclusions ring true, especially in the newspaper business.
Companies grew but as they grew they systematically eliminated obstacles to growth. Information control for the purpose of “world domination” was so well capsulized a long time ago quote by Bill Gates. But still , seeing that far into the future and being right is pretty scary, noting just how much personal information is being volunteered.
Grantham sees the present political situation a “flowering of corporatization” , corporations now own parts of the government. Journalism is covering detail but not the big picture because itself is a corporation. Newspapers are all but out of the picture, a big hurdle for the powers that be.
The analysis has been sweeping mostly from a political point of view but the most interesting have come from the Charlie Rose late night program that seeks the smartest people from various points of view. The Jeremy Grantham interview looks at the financial aspects of this turbulent time in the US. The stock market has been steadily rising through the uncertainty. Jake Sullivan a former adviser to Hillary Clinton talks about how the 2016 Presidential election ebbed and flowed as well as how political parties are looking back on how well their policies were thought out. He used an interesting analogy about how Clinton had a prescription cure mentality to political problems over a diagnostic approach. Both shows are worth seeing.
My view has been that liberalism over promises and under delivers and the time lines are too long. Trump took an immediate and a conscious approach to take action on his promises in his first one hundred days. It just seemed it worked against him. In any event corporatism is has reached a new high , a theme running in the background.
The fast moving race issues and fast moving media cycles have “magnified” the upheaval in ways that have always been papered over. Correctness is showing cracks.
Add Bill Maher's criticism of Political Correctness, he attributes to bad parenting used to shield millennials from the slightest of pains .
Cable news is left to report on process exchanging it for news. The Justice Process is the last line of democracy, the still working part.
The 2000's have put the petal to the floor starting with first corporatization , then globalization and welding all that to a North American experiment in democracy that makes the common person a refugee in their own culture. It also seems like mass migrations from middle eastern wars are spreading across the western world causing the rise in tension.
In Canada the shoe is on the other foot for the refugee issue. Refugees and migrants are crossing the border in so called large numbers and Canadians are getting alarmed. There are media people who keep calling it the concern “right wing racism” every time the issue was raised in Europe with over one million refugee migrants in the last few years. Canada is getting excited over a mere 1000. Racism and right wing excuses for alarm will have to be reexamined.
Getting back to a new thing happening. Is media in the United States now defaulting to known literature and a bunch of aging reporters to a nexus the current political crisis to the Nixon and Clinton resignations?
Were Nixon and Clinton's issues minor compared to the current political situation in the United States?
