The Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) is the Canada’s largest fair and is the fourth largest of its kind in North America.
What grew from Agricultural fair in 1879, the CNE has evolved along with the changing social landscape of North America what it is today. Automotives, telephone, radio and television have all been main attractions of the CNE when the technology was new and experimental in Canada.
Today the 18-day exhibition draws an average of 1.3 million visitors. All member of society are represented at the CNE; the crowd is an interesting cross section of Canada’s society. This essay is a look at the visitors that crowd the midway, shuffling past the shaky rides and hustling carnies.
Brett Gundlock is a staff photographer at the National Post. This essay is a personal project and currently has only been published on NPAC.
