J’ai pris la route en direction de Waterloo pour un assignation chez Research and Motion, fabricant du BlackBerry. J’ai mis une heure et demi de Toronto alors j’en ai profité pour pratiquer mon français. (J’apprends le français en utilisant la méthode audio dans la voiture, comme mentionné hier) English follows French

Je ne crois pas que le texte a été publié alors je ne devrait pas en parler, mais en résumé c’est sur le fait que ce soit cool de travailler chez RIM. Je n’avais jamais visité RIM auparavant et j’ai trouvé ça cool. Ils ont 20 buildings éparpillés partout dans Waterloo qu’ils utilisent comme bureaux ou laboratoires.

La sécurité sur place était très présente ainsi que les interdictions de photographier. Ils n’ont pas eu besoin de me bander les yeux et m’escorter dans un labo, mais ils m’ont demandé de ne faire des photos que dans cette pièce, en précisant si il était possible que la personne ne soit identifiable – ce serais magnifique.  J’aurais pu prendre deux directions avec la photo; me concentrer sur BlackBerry, ou les gens qui travaillent. L’assignation n’étai pas spécifiquement à propos du BlackBerry, mais plus à propos d’y travailler. J’ai décédé de photographier au grand angle, utilisant l’espace pour la rendre intéressante.

La pièce comportait beaucoup d’éléments visuels. Elle était utilisée pour tester les fréquences RF des appareils. La situation était cocasse, je devais avoir une photo des gens au travail mais je devais les mettre en place. J’ai demandé aux travailleurs ce qu’ils faisaient habituellement et j’ai composé avec leurs réponses. Dans mon bas de vignette, j’ai catalogué comme un portrait. J’ai complété la prise de vue et transmis les photo sur place pour ensuite retourner en ville. Je n’avais plus d’assignations pour le reste de la soirée alors ça m’a laissé du temps pour travailler sur un projet sur lequel j’étais depuis les quelques derniers mois.

Je ne veux pas parler ce cette histoire non plus, mais en bref, c,est à propos d’un appartement à Toronto. Je devrais avoir terminé à la fin du mois, alors mes secrets pourront êtres révélés. J’ai travaillé sur le projet à temps perdu et il s’agit définitivement du meilleur sujet sur lequel j’ai travaillé jusqu’à présent en carrière. Je suis vraiment content de la chose. Ce qui m’impressione le plus c’est que je fais des photos pour moi, sans avoir quelque publication en tête. Si jamais c’est publié, ce sera un bonus, mais cette façon de penser me libère et me done l’opportunité d’explorer qui je suis comme photographe. Je crois avoir grandi photographiquement pendant mes heures de travail et je suis content du résultat.

Il était tard quand j’ai fini. Je suis rentré à la maison, complété mes photos de mariage et regardé un film avec ma copine jusqu’à très tard.

I hit the road today and headed up to Waterloo to do an assignment at Research In Motion, makers of the BlackBerry.  It took about an hour and a half from Toronto so I used the time to work on my French (I am learning French through audio while in the car, as I mentioned in a pervious post.) I don’t think the story ran so I probably shouldn’t talk about it, but it basically related to how cool it was to work at RIM. I have never been to RIM before and it was a pretty cool. They have 20 buildings spread out all over Waterloo that they use as offices and labs. The security was pretty tight and so where the shooting restrictions. I did not have to be blind folded and lead into the lab, but they asked me only to shoot in this one room and if I could make the employees unidentifiable- that would be great.

I could have gone two ways with the photo; I could have concentrated on the BlackBerry, or the people working. The assignment was not specifically about the BlackBerry, more about working there. I decided to shoot it nice and wide and use the space to make an interesting photo. The room was very visual, it was used to test the RF frequencies of the devices. It was kind of a cheesy situation, I needed a picture of the people working but it had to be set up. I asked the guys what they would do in the room and we worked with that. I labeled it as a portrait in my caption information.

I shot the assignment and filed it from out there and headed back into the city. I did not have any assignments for the rest of the night so that left me free to work on a project that I have been working on for the last couple of months. I don’t want to talk about this story too much either, but it is basically about this apartment in Toronto. It will be done hopefully by the end of the month so my secrets will be revealed then.

I have been working on this project in my spare time and it is definitely the best piece of work that I have done so far in my career, I’m really happy with it. The thing that impresses me the most is that I am making the pictures for me, not with any type of publication in mind. If they get published, that is a bonus, but this type of thinking frees me up and really lets me explore who I am as a photographer. I think I have grown photographically while working on it and I am pleased with the results.

It was pretty late when I finished. I went home and finished off my wedding photos and stayed up late watching a movie with my girlfriend.
